19th Century Great Western Railways "Worcester" Drop Dial Fusee Clock. Running. 65cm.

R 12,000

A fine 19th Century 65cm mahogany cased drop dial fusee railway clock with a spun brass bezel supplied to the Great Western Railway circa 1870. The quality English chain-driven fusee movement in fully overhauled condition has rectangular plates with shaped shoulders which are held together by turned tapered pillars. A mahogany curved bottom trunk case with flame mahogany veneer and a one piece convex surround held onto the back box by four tapered pegs. The back box is of typical mid 19th century design with two side doors and a  bottom door secured with the GWR modified ball bearing catch. The GWR ivorine numberplate 936 is screwed onto the side of the case. An enamel painted iron dial with Roman numerals and bearing the legend Worcester.  Both movement and pendulum are numbered. Original key.  In overall good antique condition and the mechanism appears to be running very well. This clock comes from a private collection that was clearly well-maintained and regularly serviced.  Very rarely seen outside of the UK.  Please see images above for more detail.
