Antique Ashanti Tribal Bronze Urn.

A rare, late 19th / early 20th Century Ashanti tribal cast bronze lidded urn.  These vessels were used to store small valuables, especially gold dust.  The body, handles and base are decorated with the figural lid displaying a traditional tribal scene.  These pieces were made using the lost-wax method in which the mold is destroyed as part of the process, making each piece unique.  The Asante, also known as Ashanti in English are part of the Akan ethnic group and are native to the Ashanti Region of modern-day Ghana.
