From warinangola.com:  1 Medical Battalion Group (1 Med Bn Gp) [Afr: 1 Mediese Bataljongroep (1 Med Bn Gp)] was formed in 1899 as the Natal Volunteer Medical Corps (the official establishment date is given as 1 Jul 1913). They Served during the Anglo-Boer War, and in 1913, they became known as 2nd Field Ambulance SAMC. After World War 2, they were re-established as 1 Field Ambulance. 17 Field Ambulance was formed in 1976, and in 1981, both were combined into 1 Medical Battalion Group which is now still the only medical unit in KwaZulu-Natal.
