From warinangola.com:  2 Field Engineer Regiment (2 Fd Engr Regt) [Afr: 2 Veldgenieregiment (2 Vd Genie Regt)] was established at Potchefstroom in Jan 1962 as 17 Field Squadron [Afr: 17 Veldeskadron] to support the SA Army's Regular Force by maintaining the mobility and serviceability of own forces and counter the mobility of enemy forces. In Oct 1967 the unit was moved to Bethlehem to become a training unit. It was upgraded to a regiment and renamed to 2 Field Engineer Regiment on 1 Aug 1975, comprising of 17 and 20 Field Sqns, which, in 1979, were renamed to 21 and 22 Field Sqn respectively. The regiment played a vital role in the construction of the famous "Bridge 14" during Operation Savannah in Nov and Dec 1975. As the unit grew in size, 21, 22 and 23 Field Sqns were established as training sqns, and 24 and 25 Field Sqn as support sqns in the Operational Area of SWA.
