The Cape Field Artillery (CFA) [Afr: Kaapse Veldartillerie] can trace the origins back to 26 Aug 1857. It was first named CFA during the Rebellion in 1914, it has a long history through both world wars. On 1 Jan 1946 it was a Citizen Force unit and was used in the national Emergency of 1960, Operation Savannah in 1976, and terms of service on the SWA border. It comprised of a Regt HQ, the 1st (Amsterdam) Battery, and the 2nd (Imhoff) Battery and it provided a 140mm battery for 10 Artillery Brigade in Aug/Sep 1988 to help counter Cuban forces. On 7 August 2019, the regiment was renamed to Nelson Mandela Artillery Regiment (NMAR).
